Planning your wedding photos

Are you looking for a wedding photographer, or do you have one already and want to make sure that you tell them all the shots you want?  You can spend a long time worrying about the quality of their work, the choice of albums, the prices, whether you want contemporary, traditional or reportage style shots that it can be very easy to forget to list the actual shots you want and then be disappointed afterwards that you didn’t get a photo with Great Aunty!

We have a list that we use that is very handy and covers most of the shots that you could want and you can download a copy here to help you plan.  As well as the list, that you should ideally prepare with your photographer, here are a few other things that you should consider;

  1. Even if you want a journalistic reportage style of wedding photography, there are likely to be members of your family and friends from a number of generations at your wedding.  You might not want the traditional group shots in your final album but your Parents/Grandparents/Older relatives may want that traditional shot of them with the Bride and Groom framed on their wall as a memento of the day – it is therefore a good idea to get at least some of these shots ‘in the bag’ for them.  It won’t cost you anything other than 5 minutes of your time but could mean the World to them!
  2. Are there any family politics that the photographer needs to be aware of?  It can be a very delicate subject to deal with but intensely embarrassing for everyone, especially the photographer if they try to do a shot with two people who don’t get on, are divorced and/or they don’t get  the photos of any second families, step children etc.
  3. If you want a group shot with just your Tennis/Golf/Flower Arranging Club friends then make sure the photographer knows!
  4. If you find a shot that you love in the numerous wedding magazines that you will inevitably read, then tear it out, (or take a snap on your phone), and send it to your photographer.  They won’t be able to match it exactly, and they should do it in their own style anyway, but they can add it to their plans and get some shots with that feel.
  5. Above all – relax and enjoy your day!

We hope that has helped you and, if you want to talk to us about shooting your wedding, then please get in touch to arrange a consultation.
