Fun with Roswell

I just thought that I’d share with you a couple of photos from the time I got to shoot with the fabulous Roswell Ivory during her studio day yesterday. Roswell has been on my fantasy to shoot/meet list for a while and so I made sure to book my time in with her early, even though I didn’t get as much time with her as I would’ve liked!

The basic theme of our shoot was elegant boudoir and, as the weather wasn’t too horrid yesterday, we took advantage of some of the beautiful natural light that the studio benefits from.

Of course, once the best light was gone, we also used the studio lighting;

Commercial Catalogue Shoot

While Roswell was in the studio, one of my favourite long-standing commercial clients booked us both to do some catalogue work for a new range of foundation lingerie that they’re launching soon – I’m sure that there’ll be another post on that in a few weeks. Obviously, I can’t show you too much from the shoot yet but here are a couple of fun out-takes for you – the first demonstrates the circumstances that lead to the quote of the day from Roswell “Are you trying to stick your hand up my granny pants!?” The second is the obligatory funny face shot!

With digital camera technology moving forwards at an amazing rate and fabulous quality kit becoming ever more affordable it is much easier for many people to pick up a camera and get some great images. It is also obviously tempting to save money by getting a friend to shoot your wedding photos. However, you should think carefully before doing this as the photos are often one of the few lasting records of your special day – although fabulous on the day, the flowers will fade, the music will finish and the food will be eaten but the pictures will remain.

The story below shows what can go wrong if you do not choose your photographer carefully, check their references and portfolio and ensure that they are adequately insured. Equally important is to get all the details recorded in a suitable contract document so that it is clear exactly what you are paying for.

The funny thing about this shoot is the fact that it so very nearly didn’t happen! It had to be rearranged from it’s original schedule, nothing too dramatic there, but on the new day for the shoot, Sabina’s boss managed to be 2 hours late coming to relieve her! With this meaning time crashing into another location appointment meant that these fab pin-up photos were shot in just 45 minutes from her arrival to closing the studio door!

Every bride (and bridegroom!) looks fantastic on their wedding day. Happy people glow from the inside and that joy makes for truly beautiful photographs.

Having said that, many people feel shy or awkward in front of the camera. As your photographers we will always be there to put you at your ease and help you relax and enjoy your time in the spotlight. In order to help you prepare for your special day we have put together some top-tips to help you look elegant, relaxed and natural in your wedding photographs.

Tips & Tricks from Northampton Wedding Photographer,

Posture is important. Pulling your shoulders back and holding your head high will give a better silhouette and make you look and feel more confident. Slouching is the enemy!

Practise your posture for a few minutes every day by standing against a wall or door and squeezing your shoulder blades together while keeping your head high and your back against the wall. (This should be a gentle stretching exercise; if you feel any pain, stop. Consult your doctor if you have any concerns.)

When looking at the camera, put one foot slightly in front of the other and twist your hips slightly to one side. You will look much more relaxed and natural than if you stand square-on.

Relax your shoulders. If you are nervous or even just chilly it is a natural reaction to tighten and raise your shoulders which can create a feeling of tension in your photographs. Breathe deeply and let them fall naturally.

Don’t let your bouquet hide your beautiful dress. Hold it at hip height and slightly to one side. This will show off both dress and flowers to their best advantage.

Most of all – enjoy yourself. You are marrying the partner of your dreams, be happy and your smile will reach your eyes.
